Renesas Electronics Corporation recently introduced the industry’s first silicon solution for complete implementation of Actuator Sensor Interface version specification version 5 (ASi-5). It is the established benchmark for industrial network equipment.
ASi-5 promises much better performance and usability against ASi-3. It is capable of producing 1.27 ms cycle time, 96 slaves per segment, and 200m cable length. T ASi-5 has proven its worth in the field, it is capable of delivering an easy-to-use Fieldbus integration alternative for developers working on actuators, sensors, and several other industrial types of equipment needing cost-effective and easy Fieldbus connectivity.
Key features
The new ASI4U-V5 ASSP has following features:
- Field-proven and fully verified firmware that brings down the complications of ASi-5 implementations.
- Reduces overall design risks for users.
- Complete backward compatibility with ASi-3 devices while inculcating shorter cycle time, much higher bandwidth through use of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing).
- Much better diagnostics along with state-of-the-art robustness related with ASi-5 standard.
- Support for all kinds of bus topologies including tree, star, and line.
- Simple and pocket-friendly integration teamed with protocols like HART, IO-Link, and others.
- Supports over 200m cable and 16 data bits per second transmission channel.
In the words of maker
Niels Trapp, the Senior Director of Industrial Automation Business Division at Renesas Electronics, says, “As the digital transformation wave sweeps across industrial factories and production facilities, the ASi-5 interface constitutes the shuttle into digitization for millions of connected industrial endpoints and devices at the edge.”
He further adds,”The tight collaboration of Renesas and its ASi-5 development partners proved to be extraordinarily successful, and we are excited to bring the first ASi-5 silicon solution to the market and enable faster transmission of larger data quantities and more efficient integration with smart sensors that are becoming an integral part of the industrial IoT.”
