DORA is a four wheeled robot which explored the surroundings and environments in a way which combines telepresence and virtual reality. No, we are not talking about ‘Dora, The Explorer’. DORA is Dextrous Observational Roving Automaton.
The important thing to note about this DIY is that it lets you recreate the experience of being in another place using affordable components. It uses the virtual reality provided by Oculus Rift, using which you can explore, see and hear through a robotic surrogate.
It tracks the motion of your head in all degrees and displays images in front of your eyes at a frame rate higher than you can detect. DORA duplicates these motions by moving around the real world. It is like time travelling. It fills your brain with sophisticated experience, which includes sound and images, not just stream them to your tablet or PC, using sensors and actuators.
