Tektronix Unwraps the new 5 Series MSO Mixed Signal Oscilloscope

By Neha Rastogi June 7, 2017

Tektronix Inc., a leading provider of measurement solutions, has introduced the new 5 Series MSO mixed signal oscilloscope to meet the modern electronics design challenges. The series redefines the midrange oscilloscope with a host of innovations including the industry’s first FlexChannel technology. It allows 4, 6, or 8 analog channels and up to 64 digital channels, integrated protocol analysis, and signal generator.

Besides, a new 12-bit signal acquisition system, a massive HD capacity touch display, and a highly intuitive Direct Access user interface deliver unprecedented flexibility and unmatched visibility into complex embedded systems.

In order to effectively characterize and debug complex systems, the designers need a much larger and wider variety of signals than in the past. Besides, the usability and fast time-to-insight are critical for the budget. The 5 Series MSO is the world’s first oscilloscope with the versatility and deep signal insight needed to meet such challenges.

Key Features

1. Unlike ordinary scopes, the 5 Series MSO offers models with 4, 6, or 8 FlexChannels which is the industry’s first reconfigurable oscilloscope input. The user can add as many logic probes as needed, enabling anywhere from 8 to 54 digital channels.

2. The series features a modern industrial design with bold new colors and many useful conveniences. The instrument is less than 8-inches deep and improves user experience through a streamlined intuitive front panel with LED light rings indicating selected waveform and trigger sources.

3. The next generation front end amplifier lowers noise by approximately 4.5 dB as compared to the previous iterations. Carrying a combination of low noise and high-resolution ADC, it delivers excellent Effective Number of Bits (ENOB) performance.

4. It’s the industry’s first oscilloscope that can run either as a dedicated scope or in an open Windows configuration. The user can simply switch by adding or removing a solid-state drive that has the Windows licenses/OS installed on it.

Pricing and Availability

The 5 Series MSO can be availed at the starting MSRP of USD 12,600. The Windows OS option can be pre-ordered for delivery in September 2017.
