India’s electronics market to reach $72 Bn by 2029
India’s aerospace and defense electronics market is assumed to be worth USD 70-72 billion over the next 10 to 12 years as the country fast modernizes its military by adopting new technologies. Nearly USD 58 billion of the electronics opportunity arises from the platform — large systems that have essential electronic components developed as a solution, according to the Defence Electronics and Systems Design Report published by Roland Berger in partnership with industry bodies Nasscom and India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).
It is pertinent to mention that India’s electronics market has been observing tremendous growth in Strategic Electronics, Consumer Electronics, and Industrial, Communication. Today, the extent of Strategic Electronics is projected to grow to USD 72 Billion from the present USD 1.7 billion markets, and this indicates tremendous potential as there subsists a significant gap between supply and demand. The Indian government is expecting to support startups in the Defense Electronics industry in the country. The Defense manufacturing transformations globally has seen the Wave 1 from the US to Japan; Wave 2 from Japan to Europe, Wave 3 from South East Asia to China; and another anticipated Wave 4 to be from China to India.
IESA and NASSCOM have been assigned the responsibility to draft recommendations for the policy paper for Defense Electronics and System Design by the Ministry of Defense. To boost exports of Defense Electronics the policy recommendations have stated the requirement for an introduction of a multiplier that will secure the export base of defense electronics throughout valid technologies. Moreover, the draft has recommended that DPSUs need to leave charge of the supply chain and the government needs to guarantee more opportunities in the private industry. Another critical issue that the government and the industry require to address together is the deficit of crucial infrastructure and talent.
According to experts, the country requires to keep pace with the innovation occurring across the globe and need to commence providing a stimulus to the businesses in the defense electronics domain. Hence, the country needs to create an arrangement for technology directions with more advanced nations and the part of the government will be significant here. They should build an environment for domestic players to cross-pollinate information and technologies with other countries.
