Texas Instruments has unveiled several innovative system reference designs at the Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC). These include the company’s most advanced analog and embedded processing technologies that support several system requirements ranging from high voltage to ultra-low power. TI’s reference designs offer engineers the power to innovate using breakthrough technology of the industrial systems.
TI is also demonstrating reference designs focused on USB-Type C applications, faster and cooler electric vehicle charging, and isolation technology based on the new ISOW7841 for protection relay and smart grid applications.
The new reference designs showcased at APEC include the following:
GaN-based Power System Designs- from AC to processor:
It’s the industry’s first end-to-end high-frequency gallium nitride (GaN) power solution. It achieves a 3x power density as compared to the exiting solutions and manages power from AC to point-of-load in space-constrained industrial, telecom, and networking applications.
Smart Thermostat 24-V AC power stage:
This is an ultra-low Iq, 24-V AC power stage design that utilises a wide input range voltage converter and battery fuel gauge for optimising smart thermostat, video doorbells and gateway systems. It features a maximum input voltage of 65 V to help HVAC systems withstand transients, and a low quiescent current of less than 10 µA to maximize load efficiency.
480-W bi-directional power conversion for energy storage:
It delivers 480W/in3 with 97% efficiency in local energy storages and lithium-battery back-up power applications, particularly for server power supply units. The design is based on a two-phase interleaved half-bridge power stage controlled by TI’s UCD3138A digital power controller.
PoE for industrial LED lighting for smart buildings:
This reference design enables engineers to intelligently manage LED ballasts over Ethernet to maintain low power consumption during standbys and facilitate light industrial automation design.
