If you love to ride a bicycle but you are facing problems on roads due to unavailability of bike lanes, high speed limits and busy intersections and also you don’t want to spend large amount of money on a brand new e-bike and all you need is an occasional boost, then a low cost high value EV conversion kit: The ‘Bicycle BoosterPack’ can be your problem solver.
It is designed in a manner to quickly mount to the seat post of adult size road commuting bicycles to give them an electric boost at the push of a button. Further, this design can be completely removed in seconds and can be taken wherever you want to unlike traditional E-bikes where the entire vehicle is expensive and at risk of being stolen off the bike rack. The battery pack has an extraordinarily high energy density and the entire assembly only weighs 4 lbs and the bike gets a 5 mile range of pure boost with a top speed around 25 mph.
Challenges:
Batteries are the biggest limitation and the energy dense Li-Po batteries are risky if not handled appropriately. Ultra-safe long life LiFePO4 batteries can be used here but its cost is much greater than the Li-Po batteries.
The entire device is electrically contained and water resistant but it won’t drive with a wet tire as friction doesn’t work on water. Sandpaper drive roller can be used an alternative but at the cost of noticeably increased tire wear.
The device to be universal requires the number of standardized parts and dimensions be of one size that fits all solution.
The biggest challenges are non-engineering related as people require adequate installation support to something that is inherently not simple
