A radar is used to detect objects with the help of radio waves. Modern transponders these days can fetch you the identity, speed, direction, altitude etc. too. So if you’ve ever been interested in ‘seeing’ using radio waves, then this is the right DIY for you. Using this compilation, you can detect the airplanes around you along with all their important details. It’s a small project with a few basic components but the results are pretty impressive.

It includes a Raspberry Pi 2, an inexpensive USB TV tuner and Ethernet cable or wifi dongle. Enter the commands given, to update your raspberry and instal a few packages. Rebooting is recommended, to get the packages to run, most of the times. And you’re done. Dump1090 and you’re done!
You can also look it up in your browser for really cool, real time info. You can track an aircraft by merely clicking on it.
