Whenever it comes to homemade or DIY cameras, the outcome is usually quite inferior to what we find in the commercial ones. A lot of factors contribute to this, such as, image quality, battery back-up, chassis and several other limitations regarding handling and using it. With a lot of scope for improvement, image capturing and such optical DIY’s are indeed an unexplored avenue. The credit for this incredible DIY goes to Silver Jimny, who decided to put this barrier down and has come up with a build at home camera which is as good as a conventional digital one and is fairly customizable too.
Known as SnapPi Cam, this DIY camera is a 5MP compact point and shoot machine. Keeping Raspberry Pi as its core, Snap Pi is result of combination of open hardware and open software. Taking care of the constraints that we mentioned earlier, this click machine features a very high image quality sensor, 1200mAH Lithium Polymer battery along with a 500mAH charger, has several chassis colors, and also features a 2.8” LCD touch screen. Already amazed ? Adding more to the list is the customizability of this DIY where you can plug in suitable lens to make this camera a Macro shot taker or even equip it with a Super Zoom lens. For the adventurer souls, there is version with battery gauge and space for tripod.
Detailing this DIY, Gregory shows us how he combined some of the simply found electronic components and transformed the Pi into an image shooter. Besides showing us step by step guide about assembling the kit, he also gives information about how he has designed the kit. That’s right, there are no secrets from the innovator.
So, now you can build yourself an impressive dynamic camera over the weekend and while others flaunt their images on the social media, you can do better by showing them off your home made camera and its masterpiece clicks.
