Adafruit has introduced a Raspberry Pi notebook, where a 3D Printed enclosure fits the Pi 2 and a 3.5” PiTFT into a small retro mini laptop. The tinyChiclet keyboard is wireless and characterizes a track pad as well as touch screen on the PiTFT. Further, the device is rechargeable through the Power Boost 1000C and the 2000mAh battery adjusts between the screen and the Raspberry Pi. Additionally, 3D Printed pivots to the enclosure, which makes this as a tiny portable computer.
The device can be used for observing and controlling prints, inspecting the webcams, streaming music or even play text adventures games like Zork. The equipment required for this project are Power boost 1000C, Mini Metal Speaker, Raspberry Pi 2, 3.5″ PiTFT, Miniature Keyboard, 3D Printer, Filament, #2-56 machine screws and #4-40 machine screws.
The Software for the PiTFTneeds kernel support and a couple of other things. For 3D Printed Parts, the project requires 4 hinges, Keyboard case, Back cover and Slicer Settings. Further, the hinges print with no support material and are collected with a machine screw, nut and friction. The hinges join like Legos.
The battery is fixed in between the screen and the Pi 2 by bending the header pins on the PiTFT display and preparing a room for it. The battery is protected and prepared by wrapping a layer of gaffers tape around the battery. Now, the battery sandwich is developed by sensibly mounting the PiTFT on top of the Pi.
Two short jumper cables are used to connect power and ground to the Pi. Power is GPIO2 while ground isGPIO6. The route wires is carefully nested for the speaker, amp and Power Boost between the screen and Pi. Next, the Pi and PiTFT is inserted and the Speaker is added. It is necessary to measure each wire to get an estimate of how long will be required for all of the components. Powerboost 1000C is mounted which is followed by PAM8302 amp. The wires are extended to the Pi and the jumper cables are soldered to the groundand positive pins on PowerBoost 1000C.
The Slide Switch are now mounted and wires are soldered to it followed by PowerBoost 1000C. Now, the audio is routed to the speaker and the Audio wires are nested along the side of the case to avoid covering up the USB ports. 2000mAh Lipo battery is connected to the JST port on the Power Boost 1000C and the slide switch is turned to check power.
Using four #4-40 screws, the Pi and PiTFTare mounted to the case. While the back cover is laid over the enclosure. Four #2-56 screws are fasten to mount the back cover to the enclosure. The USB ports are inserted inside the enclosure to easily hide the USB dongles.
