Maxim Integrated Products Introduces Himalaya Synchronous Step-Down DC-DC Converters

Maxim Integrated Products Inc. has introduced Himalaya synchronous step-down DC-DC converters that comply with the international electronical commission (IEC) and safety integrated level (SIL) standards to achieve long-term system reliability. ]]>MAX17572]]> and ]]>MAX17574]]> are highly efficient converters that offer a 40% reduction in power dissipation and shrink solution size by 50% as compared to other solutions. 
The industrial market is witnessing digitization at a rapid race with continual improvement in the safety, performance, and intelligence of systems. In order to deploy processors from sensors to control units, designers are required to reduce power dissipation while managing space constraints.

Further, they must meet thermal challenges as well as safety standard regulations for ensuring long-term reliability. The designers are also required to account for high voltage transients up to 60V on a 24V or 48V bus. 
With MAX17572 and MAX17574 converters, designers can operate 4.5-60V and reduce power dissipation and solution size to comply with the IEC 61508 safety standard. The former is available in a 12-pin, 3mm x 3mm thin-DFN (TDFN) package while the latter can be availed in a 24-pin, 4mm X 5mm TQFN package. 
Operating over the -40-degree Celsius to +125-degree Celsius temperature range, these converters are applicable for battery back-up, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), and data centers. The converters are offered with a guarantee of 1A and 3A operation (5V output) and are optimised for high voltage industrial applications including sensors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial controls, distributed supply regulation, and factory/building/power grid automation.

These converters deliver more than 90% efficiency across 50-100% of the load current.
The integrated MOSFETs and compensation reduce the solution size and facilitate high-switching frequency with low minimum on-time.
The internal compensation addresses any output voltage and switching frequency combination without hampering the bandwidth for rapid design.

The MAX1752 and MAX1754 converters are available at the Maxim’s website and select authorized distributors at $1.83 and $2.19, respectively. The evaluation kits are also available at $29.73.
