We are very much aware of the light pollution occurring majorly due to streetlights. They are not only responsible for blocking starry night sky but also causing serious health problems. Well, if you are really missing those old days, when you could easily get a shot of night sky, then a strategically placed laser might solve your problem to an extent.
Destin Sandlin of the YouTube channel SmarterEveryDay visited a NASA astronaut and also a photographer, Don Pettit. He showed Sandlin a trick which can temporarily disable an irritating streetlight just down the street and you can watch this “life hack” in the video provided on the website.
The trick lies in the fact that streetlights can be turned off by pointing a semi-strong red laser at it. Not any other color but only red works as per the experience of the astronaut as he had a surplus red laser at a junkyard, which he mounted to a pole.
As the streetlights are light sensing sensors which turn on automatically as the sun sets, so, when a laser is pointed at the sensor, near the lamp on streetlights, it temporarily shuts down. The laser successfully trick the sensor by making it think that it’s daytime again, and the lamp should switch off
Well, before trying this trick, go through the rules and regulation of your country and also check the safety implications and legality of doing this. Get the video from the following website.
