Computer VIRUS is a piece of program that can copy itself and infect a computer. A VIRUS can affect the normal functioning of a computer system, damage the software and hardware, and even infect other systems that come in the contact of the infected system. The reproducing ability of viruses distinguishes them from malware and spyware.
The first VIRUS dates back to 1970, Named creeper, it gained access via the ARPANET, which was the predecessor of the internet. It copied itself to the remote system where the message, “I’m the creeper, catch me if you can!” was displayed. Creeper was written by Bob Thomas at BBN technologies. Later, reaper program was written to disinfect creeper.
