Coprocessors are computer processor to supplement the functionality of the primary processor. These could be in the form of floating point arithmetic processors, graphics processors, physics engines or signal processors which take the load off the main processor hence improving performance of the overall system. Further, these open up customization options for the consumers such that they may choose a coprocessor as per their needs. Coprocessors may be general purpose processors or might need the primary processor to fetch instructions for them. Nowadays, dedicated Graphics cards with additional capabilities like Physics engines PhysX and sound cards are popular among consumers.
