Xsens, a leading innovator in 3D motion technology has released MVN Studio 4.4, a new software update for unshackled motion capture. It enables on-body recording in any environment at the touch of a button. MVN Studio is the company’s mo-cap software solution that is used in combination with the Xsens mocap suits to record, monitor, and analyse movement.
While using the On-Body Recording, the data is stored directly to the Body Pack without the requirement of a nearby hardware or an on-site power source. Users can start the capture simply by the press of a button and then upload the data when they have access to a computer.
MVN Studio’s On-Body Recording functionality makes mocap even more flexible and accessible and thus has opened up new possibilities of body data recording anywhere, anytime. After the release of the MVN Remote App for mobile in MVN Studio 4.3, the 4.4 update has brought up a Reference Camera view to the application.

This remote app allows users to control recordings and review performances from their iOS/Andriod smartphones. Meanwhile, with the new Reference Camera, users can capture the reference video of a shoot, for instance, recording an actor’s facial expressions during a take. Moreover, the captured video would play back in MVN Studio 4.4, disclosing the context when the motion was recorded thus enabling users to validate the video.
Hein Beute, Director of Product Marketing at Xsens, comments: “MVN Studio 4.4 opens many new possibilities for inertial mocap. For instance, you could capture a Motocross rider’s movement from the start of a race to the end; or if you’re performing ergonomics on a hands-on profession like lumberjacking, the subject can work deep in the woods without the need for a nearby power source. MVN Studios 4.4 makes mocap more accessible than ever.”
