STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor leader, has introduced motion-sensing and data-processing chips for the Snowfox Trackerphone that ensures the safety of the individuals. The Trackerphone is a 2-way portable communication device developed by a Finnish design and engineering startup. It has been designed for the safety of children and senior citizens by tracking their location.
Discussing the device, it’s a matchbox-sized, easy-to-carry gadget that maps the location of the wearer in real-time and also allows calling facility. It has a one-button control that prompts notifications and call requests to family members. The wearers can be monitored through a smartphone app offering various map views, location history, and event timeline.
Coming to the chips, the MEMs accelerometer detects user activity so as to start the location measurements whereas the ultra-low-power STM32 microcontroller ensures its reliable functioning while utilizing minimal energy. The combination of the Trackerphone’s real-time performance with STMicroelectronics’ chips power efficiency strikes a perfect balance of functionality and battery life.
Apart from this, ST’s state-of-the-art technologies have also contributed to Haltian’s hardware prototyping platform named Thingsee One thus creating new IoT products and services.
“The Snowfox Trackerphone enables children and seniors to remain active and stay connected, giving their family members peace of mind in keeping their loved ones safe,” said Iain Currie, Vice President North Europe Sales, STMicroelectronics. “Haltian’s decision to rely on ST’s high-performance, ultra-low-power chips confirms our enabling role in the development of innovative applications that help people get more from life.”
