Night Lamp with Timer for Stairs

By Ashutosh Bhatt

This circuit is based on the phenomenon of Push-ON and Auto-OFF. This means that when the circuit is switched ON, it will remain ON for specific period of time and then it will turn OFF automatically. Again to switch ON the circuit the user has to push the button ON just once.
This auto working project can be used in the places like night lamp, staircase light, porch light etc. The preset time can be set in advance so that user can get enough time to settle down without the tension of who will turn OFF the lights. It is inexpensive in construction and users don’t have to depend on others to switch OFF the lights.
The circuit uses NE555 IC, whose internal circuit alongwith pinouts are shown below:

This circuit is based on the phenomenon of Push-ON and Auto-OFF. This means that when the circuit is switched ON, it will remain ON for specific period of Night Lamp with Timer for Stairs>time and then it will turn OFF automatically. Keep on reading to find out how the circuit is made and how it work.

The IC 555 timer is the heart of the circuit which is wired in monostable mode. This means that it will not change its mode of operation until any external pulse is applied. Since the mechanism of switching OFF is timer based so the light will be turn OFF automatically after specific duration of time. Also to switch ON the circuit Push-to-on switch is used which should be pushed for short interval to turn ON the light.
When the project is switched ON for first time the devices connected to it are automatically turned ON and after 25 seconds the device will get turned OFF. Initially at PIN2 a high output pulse is received. When the switch is pressed the voltage at PIN2 will momentary reduces to zero. At this time the capacitor C3 starts charging through resistor R3. As a result relay connected to PIN3 of IC1 will get triggered.
The on time can be varied by changing the resistance R3. To protect the circuit from noise signal of other switches, capacitors C1 and C4 are used. A reset switch is also used in the circuit so as to turn OFF the circuit before the preset time gets over. Depending upon the relay used in the circuit the power supply can range from 5V to 15V.
